DIDIER KONINGS

Director and Lead Artist for NightRoad Studios.

From a young age, Didier always dreamed of becoming a filmmaker. When he saw Steven Spielberg’s “Jurassic Park” for the first time, he was enamored by the visual effects and unique story. He immediately dove headfirst into learning everything he could about film. While attending design-specific primary and secondary school, Konings made numerous amateur movies with his childhood friends – many of which won prizes in competitions. This became the foundation for his career in the film industry.

Didier continued his education with a specialization in Digital Matte Painting and Concept Art. His work at the Netherlands Film Academy drew the attention of Aaron Sims Creative in Los Angeles, where he was offered an internship. Didier moved on to work full time at ASC as the Lead Digital Matte Painter and Concept Artist. He worked on several blockbusters and delivered iconic concept design work and memorable visual effects. Some highlights include:  the majestic worlds of the film A Wrinkle in Time (Dir. Ava DuVernay, starring Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, and Chris Pine), the design for Themyscira Island from the film Wonder Woman (Dir. Patty Jenkins, starring Gal Gadot and Chris Pine), the bizarre Upside Down world for the hit TV series Stranger Things, and several matte paintings for The Conjuring 2 to name a few.

Didier has directed and produced several projects from short films (such as Uncario (2020), which won many prestigious awards for best sci-fi at festivals across the world, and Seized (2022)) and music videos (In My Breath, MA/SA (2021), Signs, Quinn Alexander (2022)). He most recently directed his first feature, the mid-length folk horror “Witte Wieven”. Witte Wieven is based on a Dutch myth and premiered in January at the 2024 IFFR. Across industries, Didier is considered to be a prolific visual artist and known to have an intuitive knack for directing.  He is currently in the process of developing his next feature film.
